Dear /cgl/. I have a request.

You see this guy? This is Fire Emblem. He's from Tiger & Bunny. His outfit is fantastic and so is he. I would cosplay as him in an instant if it were not for one small problem: I'm not black.

Black people of /cgl/. People of other races of /cgl/ who have black friends. Spread this around. We need someone to cosplay Fire Emblem. He's the hero that cosplay needs.

Black anon here. You know you can go ahead and cosplay him if you want right? Cosplay who you want. Though I guess part of the hilarity is that he is a huge butch black man.

We need to get some Tiger & Bunny cosplay pronto. I would like to see a lot more male cosplayers come forward and cosplay the male characters too.

This actually brings up a good question, because I would have suggested that you do it anyways and just put on a lot of dark makeup to reach that skin tone as best as you can, but I'm not sure how other people would see that.
Even though it's cosplay and we want to be as accurate as possible, would a white person putting on makeup to cosplay an ethnic person be considered offensive because of the whole "blackface" thing?
I have several ethnic friends who do "whiteface" to cosplay characters and no one has a problem with that (that I know of), but I'm wary of doing dark skin on myself for when I cosplay Sho from TWEWY (pic related) since I'm a pale-as-fuck caucasian.

I wish my boyfriend would cosplay as Kotetsu (he's got that rugged look and he's tan), and one of my other friends as Barnaby (typical pretty boy looks, glorious long hair), and I'd either attempt Blue Rose or Dragon Kid, but sadly... they don't like Tiger and Bunny enough to want to cosplay from it. Ah well. Definitely hoping to see Tiger and Bunny cosplays in the future, though.

I don't see what is wrong with doing it as you are, nor do I see any problem using make up. I'm black and I just cosplay whoever I feel, regardless of skin tone. Do whatever you want, it's a hobby not serious business.

Meh, I've cosplayed a handful of ethnic characters (none black though) and I've never gotten shit for it. If you do it well enough it probably won't look that weird. Not going with theatrical makeup means you aren't trying hard enough.

Try self-tanner, real tanning, or get used to being white Sho. Wrong skin tone > smearing "hurr this looks brown enough"-colored makeup all over your pasty ass.

I agree with you. The only time I have *ever* seen skin-tone makeup done in a non-shitty way is in Promise's youtube tutorials (see my pic for screencaps). I've never seen a cosplayer pull it off, probably because they don't put any effort into it like you said.
