Alright /cgl/. I'm completely new to Lolita. Can you ladies explain what makes a Lolita good/bad? What's the best way to start? Are the 'genres' pretty strict of can you intermix them if done tastefully?

I'd also love to hear some stories about how you started etc?
Pic related.. i think with the correct accessories this could be super cute.

The dress in your pic isn't lolita, but you could try to push it that way if you really wanted. It's more retro or otome (a sister style to lolita which is less poofy and more subdued but still utilizes colorful prints).

i didn't suggest that it was. i was just saying i think it could be pushed towards Lolita.
Casual Lolita or classic Lolita would be most likely i think? i like it anyway :) Here's a similar but more Loilta dress from the same folder.

Still not sure what brand makes a good pannier, really want some recommendations from those with experience! Hello lace mentioned not to buy from bodyline. also how does one buy from language locked websites? i only speak english.

My petti is from fanplusfriend and I think it's pretty good. I need to get a black one soon. Taobao's Dear Celine has good ones too.

pic not really related, but I fucking love this dress. My suggestion to OP is to look for dresses you LOVE and get those. I felt like when I got into lolita my focus was to just build my wardrobe, so I bought a lot of bodyline. Big waste of money. Yeah, I was able to sell it, but I would have been better off just starting with things I love.
