Cosplayer opinion but I think lolitas only get annoyed when they say they're lolita and not a maid outfit.

Same, only I would go as far as to add a "no cat ears" clause. I'll see a girl in either a maid costume, or maybe some offbrand lolita that isn't ita-looking, and I think, this girl has potenti.... Ugh! Cat ears!

Nobody likes shitty lace, but i don't see the problem with the cat ears, it's a matter of taste of course. Maybe cat ears don't really suit Lolitas, but they don't look that bad on Maids either, in my opinion

lolita here, you've more or less got it, I think.

however, there are styles of lolita that look maid-like, AKA the old school Alice styles. so it's easy for the line to blur sometimes.

for instance, this could look like a maid to the untrained eye, but most lolitas realize that this is an Alice style. it basically just has an apron over it, which was common for Victorian children because, you know, kids are messy. and it's easier to bleach/baking soda and vinegar the shit out of white clothing.

I think if the maid outfit is well made, like many have said then it's fine. As long as they know they're maids and not lolita, however, I LOVE animal ears with them! Maybe other lolitas think she's trying to be lolita as well and therefore she's ita in a maid dress.

This. As a lolita I hate it when people call maid lolita or lolita maid. As logn as you know maid is maid and lolita is lolita then I'm fine.

I even cosplay as maids time to time for cons, so I have no ill will towards maid outfits.

Cat ears just look out of place unless it's for a specific character. It also tends to cheapen the look of the costume. Imagine a girl in a really pretty maid dress. She's taken the time to do her hair and make-up, and she looks down-right pretty. Now imagine this girl in this exact outfit, only wearing pink fuzzy bedroom slippers. Looks ridiculous and out of place, no? I'm not saying don't wear cat ears at all, but I just don't think they belong with the maid look.
