What's the view on buying costumes versus making them? Now that the D. Gray-Man fad has died down at my local cons I really want to try my hand at a group cosplay for the main cast of DGM, but I know that no matter how hard I try I won't be able to make the uniforms.

I'm more craft savvy and I plan on busting out some crazy props but does BUYING the costume automatically make you less than someone who can make one? I've got basic sewing skills but no faith in my ability to break out four Exorcist uniforms.
