>>4411467EXACTLY. My friends at college have dumped hundreds of dollars into Magic The Gathering, with hundreds of cards each. Some of them have like 12 decks on them at all times. Meanwhile, all I've gotten is a deckbuilder toolkit (~$25), 5 boosters (~$50), and three starter decks, and that's all I'll buy. It's a card game, that we tend to play on campus between ourselves. Why spend so much money on printed paper, when that money can be used to buy food for you or even someone in more need than you or me?
Similarly, cosplay isn't something I've tried to spend outrageous amounts of money on. I always try to go for closet cosplays, with minimal outside purchases (the only one so far being a wig for Scar). It bothers me sometimes how much some cosplayers will spend and how much work they put into a costume, only to never wear it again. :/
OP, if you really insist on cosplaying, a couple of hints:
>Go for characters that wear relatively "normal" clothes. The closer the set looks to real life fashion, the better.>Make a list of what clothes you already have, and try to find characters that would wear clothing that's similar to your already-existing style. Example: Alternate c of main characters from Bleach.>Look in artbooks, especially, for alternate costumes. Find costumes with street clothes, or close to it.>If you have "disposable" clothes, ask yourself "Could I combine shirt A with pieces from shirt B/accessory to make character's shirt?" Be creative with what you have.(( con't in next post ))
