>>4411146I don't agree with that. Mew/Lief made Aster Cafe, which I wouldn't call classic, gothic, or really anything. The closest to it is sweet. And Baby sweet isn't AP sweet.
As for why people only do Sugary Cupcakes Raining down on Candy Land, well, that's what sells. Remember that Angelic Pretty is by FAR the most popular brand. Of course people are going to think if they emulate it, they'll make a profit. Unfortunately, most of these people don't really know how to design. Most of the "prints" I see are tacky, boring, or just not something I want to buy. The thread we had last night with the girl who was designing for Bodyline kind of showed the issues with designing prints. The one she showed was actually pretty nice for a sweet print, but BL didn't think it was sugary enough. Even they realize their biggest seller isn't subtle, toned down outfits, but that Carousal print.
Classic, in a way, takes more effort. Let's be honest, like sweet, after a while they all sort of run together. To stand out, you have to make a special cut or do something that's not obvious, and most people aren't good at that.
I wish people would look more at taobao brands like Dear Celine or R-Series. Notice how their big sellers don't have dancing candy canes along the bottom. The fabrics aren't any special prints, and sometimes even couch-like, but they stand out. They aren't overpriced (seriously, if you want people to pay more than $100 for a skirt, you're going to have to work a lot harder. Sorry, people are always going to say "I could get used brand for that price!), they're usually well-made, and the designs looked like someone with competence and actual experience in fashion-making made them.
My captcha is getting weirder by the day. Problem?, IAmAlive, and Schlick, what next?
