Okay, OPanon, assuming you aren't trolling, here's what a convention is!
A group of people who all enjoy/are enthusiasts for the same thing gather together to discuss and enjoy it, meet people and make friends. That's it at its base.
Most conventions require an entrance fee to get a badge, which lets you into the center or location and the events. Some are free. The prices are all over the map from $15 to $75 or even more (I believe Otakon is $75 now, good lord.) Cons can be a single day event, a weekend, three days, or some can be longer. Most conventions discussed here are three days, Friday-Sunday.
Depending on the focus of the convention, there are often panels, where people important to the hobby/fandom speak and give Q&As, interviews or presentations. Sometimes there are informational panels. Anime and Sci-Fi/Comic conventions often have screening rooms where series or movies run.
Larger conventions have dealers' halls, where vendors set up to sell products or merchandise that's been mass-produced. For example, DVDs, books, official plushies, posters, flimflam, etc. There might also be an Artist's Alley, where there are booths for independent artists to sell prints of their artwork, handmade plushes, jewelry or other cool items. Sometimes creators of comics and series hang out here, too.
