I'm currently trying to lose some weight, but I'd like to do at least one cosplay this year instead of waiting to be thinner, so I'm trying to figure out what I can pull off with a chubbier body type.

Pic related--I'm considering Madoka, since I think it'd look OK if I constructed it well.

Ehh I wouldn't say Madoka is good for slightly chubs. She has a childish body, but there's a difference between that youthful soft fat versus kinda chubs. Unless your body is nice and flat up top and then suddenly!chubs around the skirt area, then back to skinny again I'd pick a different character.

Aren't a lot of anime characters stick-thin, though? There's plenty of chubbier (or outright fat) cosplayers out there, how do they deal?

Hmm, yeah, that's a good point. Even when I was thinner I was pretty busy--I should probably try a character with an older-looking figure.

There are chubbier characters out there, and /cgl/ is always ready to give tremendous approval to people that do size-appropriate cosplay. Or you can always lose weight.

There are a few chubby anime characters. Like the girls from Real Drive or whatever. You don't need to cosplay from anime though...

I don't have to do anime, no, but most of the things I'm interested in cosplaying from are anime. I'm into american cartoons and the occasional film, but I can't think of very many chubby characters from those, either.
