/ck/, what foods can you absolutely not stand?

I can't for the life of me eat pickles. It especially tires me out when I find them in my burgers or hotdogs as I have to pick them out. My asshole family keeps criticizing me for it, even though I basically gag at seeing a filthy pickle on my plate. Why the fuck should a burger even have pickles in them, gross.

-roasted red peppers (last time i had it i was working on a boat in 18 foot seas and was vomitting the entire 2 day trip. literally couldnt even stand without vomitting red peppers)

Hate eggs and eggplants.

I'll cook with eggs, but on their own they're revolting. And I've never had eggplant that wasn't slimy and rubbery.

Nope. Although I would have to say that sweet potato fried are the least disgusting way to have sweet potatoes. Somebody got me to try some sweet potato pie before and said it tastes like pumpkin pie.

There are a lot of things I don't like... most seafood, nori, konnyaku, eggs, soft tofu, mutton to name a few.

But the difference between me and other people posting their picky eating habits in this thread, I am not a picky bitch.

I used to hate raw tomatos, then I ate some and now I like them. I used to hate brussel sprouts but then I ate some and now I like them. I used to hate all seafood, then I had some cod and some tilapia and some tuna-salad sandwiches and loved them. Same for eggplants, for zucchini, for ketchup chips, for soymilk and lychees and firm tofu and rare steak and fruit in savoury dishes and black coffee. I tried all those things growing up and didn't like them, but returning to them with an open mind I found out they weren't so bad, and suddenly as eating dishes that I'd dismissed before but now find absolutely fantastic.

I haven't overcome all my picky eating preferences... returning to salmon and nori made me queasy despite my best efforts. I've also picked up a few new dislikes: I love almost all Ethiopian food, for example, but I cannot stand injera, which is this sour soggy flatbread serving as plate and eating utensil in that cuisine. I also used to not mind Wonderbread with jam or butter & cinnamon sugar, but these days the fact it seems to melt away in your mouth disturbs enough to make eating it unpleasant.

Those are my preferences, but they aren't somehow a core character trait that must be respected and exalted as a pillar of my being. My dislike of foods is not a good trait, it is not even a neutral trait... it is a bad trait, and one worth overcoming. Tastes are after all not set in stone, they change and shift as you age and try out different flavours, and at the same time a given ingredient can be prepared in so many ways that the stuff you hated could taste great when you encounter it in a different way (or just cooked by someone half-decent). I expect people to mock me a little for being picky about food, and I turn around and do the same to them when they get picky about different things... and usually someone will say 'you should try some you'll like it' every once and awhile, and you owe it to yourself if not to them to say 'These other people seem to enjoy it, I'll take a spoonful and see if I still feel the same way about it today that I did a year ago'.
