>>2766596I'm a non-American living in America for a while, I also would like to know some real original American food to enjoy while I'm here. So far I've had a tonne of Mexican but honestly I'm getting pretty fucking sick of that, regardless of where it comes from it all ends up tasting the same.
Here's some food that I think is mostly traditionally American (based on the fact that I haven't seen it anywhere else, or you guys just eat it and no one else cares for it much):
-Red Velvet cake (and any other cakes with Cream-cheese frosting)
-Bagels (I know not 'American' but you find them here and basically nowhere else)
-Dishes heavy on wild rice grown here (yum)
-Plain grilled cheese sandwiches (I still only like this as a side dish though)
-Biscuits (scone-like dinner rolls for other English speakers, they aren't sweet, I love these)
-Hotdogs (drunk food only...)
-Smothered pork chops
-Shortcake (also scone-like but sweeter and heavier on the fats, more cakey, also yum)
-Key lime pie (this is a pretty epic variation on cheese cake)
