I was dyeing Easter eggs yesterday, and for some reason or another there seemed to be some sort of weird membrane that was sloughing off of the eggs once I had placed them in the cups of dye (vinegar + dye tablet). I rinsed them off and they were practically white again. I then stuck then back in the dye, but the color is barely changing and I can still rinse the dye off even after letting them sit for awhile.
I was using "cage-free" white eggs from Trader Joe's, but I don't see why that would have anything to do with it. In years past I have used plain ol' Safeway brand eggs without any issues. What the hell is going on with my eggs?
Pic sort of related (it's how my eggs should have turned out instead of this stupid bullshit)
