Ghosty, you're not going to want to trek all over the boroughs. Let everyone know what part of town you have your hotel or business reasons or whatnot. So people can show you what you want in specific neighborhoods.

Ok, sometime during your visit when it's like midnight or so go to 53rd and 6th and get food from one of the carts on the corner
If you see one with a fucking retarded line go to the one across the street that usually has no line, the same guy owns both carts but people are too fucking stupid to realize that

Also St Mark's Place is a must-visit

well dont go to the carnegie deli, that shit sucks. italian restaurants, go to mulberry street and take your pick, they are all good. asian restaurants you can go to china town and wander around or you can go to szechuan gourmet which has a big menu, for ramen I say you go to naruto ramen on 3rd ave between I believe 89 and 90; people will say that there are better ramen places down town but the ones that say that have obviously never eaten ramen in japan because this is authentic from start to finish and as close to sitting in a japanese ramen hut as you can get in the city. the best gyro and pizza I have found are actually both very close with the gyro coming from a stand right next to the mosque on 96th between 2nd and 3rd but the guy isnt always there. the best slice of pizza I found is strangely enough in some little pizzaria owned by an asian guy with his mexican staff and that is on first ave across from 101st street, its called MJ pizza and it usually has drug dealers and shit standing right there on the corner and if you have a female with you they will yell sexual shit so just ignore them, they wont touch you.

not the guy who suggested the place, but as far as juniors goes, it is pretty standard american/deli fare, pretty good though. they are probably most well known for their cheesecake which is mad good... if you aren't into cheesecake you can probably go somewhere else that is closer to your destination

best chinese food in new york is actually in flushing, it's worth taking the the train there because the food is really fucking unbelievable. although there are some comparable places in china town proper. In soho it's worth checking out Sunrise Mart for really interesting imported japanese food and cheap and really good bento boxes. Also, head over to washington square park and go to mamoun's falafel. That place is amazing. If you're uptown on 96th and 1st there is Il Fornaio which is a hole in the wall place with fucking amazing pizza. They make the quintessential New York slice, salty and thin and amazing. I would also suggest leafing through the dining section or hitting up serious eats because there is always something culinarily interesting popping up in the city.

celiacfag here, don't know if you want any of my recommendations, but here they are:

Italian-Risotteria
Bakery-Baby Cakes

if you are one of those people who are completely repulsed by even the thought of not having wheat/gluten in what ever you are eating, i know baby cakes has some cupcakes that are made with smelt instead and am pretty sure that Risotteria has some items that are made with wheat.

if you go to see the met (cost a fucking quarter so do it) go to Papaya King and get a couple of the best hot dogs you will ever eat.

Best chinese is in flushing, but I have found some pretty good stuff in manhattan and Xian and near me on the UES is Wa Jeel. Wa Jeel is like stepping of a plane and walking straight into Chungdu.

I arrived back from NYC earlier this week. Food there is awesome, and there are no shortage of places to eat at.

Here a few places to check out:
Shake Shack (Milkshakes + Burgers. I recommend the Shroom Burger)
Patsy's (Italian Restaurant)
Papaya King (Hotdogs)
Menchanko Tei (Japanese. Sumo Bowl there was awesome)
Famous Ray's (You'll see a bunch of Ray's, but check out the one on 465 6th Ave [Ave of the Americas])
Bank Mi Saigon
Katz's Deli (A tourist's must)
New Amazing 66
Five Guys Burger and Fries
Waffles and Dingles (you'll need to look them up as they're a van located in different places every day, but the belgian waffles they do are most excellent)

And pic related, the choc-chip from Le Pain Quotidieni Bakery I had on my last day in NYC

Is the Minetta Tavern a restaurant or a pub? I'm only 19, so I probably wouldn't be allowed in.

And oh boy does that bakery display look good.
