I am a newbie that has made a newbie mistake in trying to make macarons

>recipe says to mix almond meal with powdered sugar
>I add in superfine granulated sugar instead.
>tastes overly sweet

So I was wondering if I cut the sugar in half for the buttercream recipe, could it possibly even out the sweetness of the macaron shells and create a balance?

pic related, the book i got recipe from.

I'll probably throw these away if I can't get them to taste okay :/
