We just spent money on rent and things, and can't get a new fridge for a week (when we all get paid again). What are the best sorts of meals and things to have on hand when you don't have a fridge handy?
We have a freezer but I'd like for us to not eat frozen shit for a week straight.

Rice and pasta with canned goods like sauces or canned tuna. Theres also soba, pretty sure you don't have to refrigerate concentrated soba dipping sauce. Pre-made mixes you could just use water with like pancakes and vegetable pancakes. You don't have to refrigerate herbs either so you could just keep those in a glass of water. Tomatoes also don't need to be refrigerated, and if you're going to eat steak, you could just cook it the day you buy it immediately.

Basically stay away from dairy unless it's canned or has preservatives like fake Parmesan, green vegetables that wilt easily(some you can keep with some water like a vase of flowers), meat, and cut/peeled/prepared foods.

Canned foods or dried foods. Most vegetables will keep if you put them in a cardboard box or bag in the basement or outside if it is under 60 where you are. Eggs will keep a few days at room temp if they are fresh. (the stamped on date is more than 2 weeks away)

If you want meat, buy the exact amount the 2 of you will eat and cook it when you get home.

Remember the fridge is a invention of the last 150 years, and many places around the world dont have them. They are certainly nice, but by no means necessary.

I don't know where you live OP but in my city I had 22 results. Give it a shot before you shell out big bucks on a fridge

Dry ice + dead fridge=Icebox.
Even if dead it's still fairly well insulated, and a chunk of dry ice will last a few days if you're not opening the fridge every ten minutes.

just separate your meats into individual servings then defrost every day. if you put bagged, frozen meat in a bowl of cold water for a few hours, it defrosts rather quickly. then keep your produce in a cool, dark place like a pantry or a cellar.

other than that, some canned meats arent all that bad in a pinch. made this awhile ago out of some canned chicken. you just need to get a bit creative with what you have.
