>>2773414Search around. I know other countries have much more efficient systems, because most of the things that would get thrown out here get donated to the poor. Here, it's a diver's paradise. Almost everything that's thrown out is still packaged, mostly due to minor cosmetic blemishes, arbitrary expiration dates, or package damage. If a 30 pack of beer has a rip in it, the whole pack gets thrown out. Sometimes I can't even tell what's wrong with the stuff that gets thrown out, some of it isn't even "expired".
As a rule, I avoid anything that's not packaged, meat, eggs, and milk. Watch out for bulging cans, too, they're starting to ferment. I've taken meat and milk in the winter when it's bitterly cold, but I avoid it most of the time
