Sobieski is my favorite generally, Svedka is fine for the money too if the selection sucks.
Vodka is not an aged product, there is no reason it should cost more than 20$ a bottle.
A lot of american style vodkas over distill towards tasting like nothing. I dont really see the point. Some of the polish/russian brands leave a faint taste of the original fermentation. Which when good, leaves a slight faint "bready" taste. When bad it tastes like mineral spirits.
Potato vodkas are slightly drier, grain vodkas more neutral. Corn and fruit more sweet. This is a generalization. Personally, I dont like potato, and when potato is bad, its usually very bad. Rye tends to be good, if only cause its more expensive than wheat, so at some point the distiller gave a fuck.
