Should fresh ground meats have a smell at all?

There are two or three places we buy ground meats from here. One is the U.S. megachain, Meijer's. They always seem to have the freshest meat to me. Then there is a regional supermarket we also buy from. Sometimes even when "fresh," their meats have an odor and the Meijer's ones don't.
