I've decided to add red wine as a regular meal-accompaniment due to its (proven) positive health effects and of course my general enjoyment of its taste and effects.

I'm 23 and, though raised upper-middle, both of my parents are from working class backgrounds and don't know jack shit. This has more or less been transferred to me.

So, realizing I'm no connoisseur, and that I'll be buying whatever the local supermarkets have to offer, what should I look for to maximize my enjoyment?

(I know it's opinion-based, but there has to be some advice or tips on really good supermarket wine.)
