Is it some kind of...poor mans roast?

Any recipes or ways to cook meatloaf properly that i should know because i plan to try.

Yeah, poor man's roast is about right.

Basically ground meat and bread to stretch the meal a bit further.

You don't use that much bread crumb though, it's more to lighten the texture a bit.

I like using ground lamb with Arabic spices, mint, cumin and such. Though traditional beef with the ketchup and brown sugar mix on top is good too.

Ground beef + egg (s) + oatmeal + onions + garlic (maybe.) + Worstershire sauce > oven for a while > ketchup on top > oven a little more > nom

some people put bacon on it but I think that's unnecessary. others put green peppers in it but they taste like moldy SHIT and ruin the dish.

It was more-or-less created in the Depression as an attempt to be more economic with the limited supplies.

It's pretty much the same as a giant meatball.
Meat + Filler + Spices

On a side note I find it kind of sad that so many low-end foodstuffs and means of preparation rose in popularity after the depression.

i love meatloaf, both beef (traditional american meatloaf i think) and pork. Mix the meat up with whatever, stick it in the oven ???? nice tasting stuff you can eat for dinner, and put in sandwiches the day after. You like meatball sammich? how about meatloaf sammich, fuck yeah.
