Hello everyone, and welcome to the first edition of Masterbot Theater for the Merry Month of May. Today we are going to continue our look at the history of Enerjak by reading from the Knuckles Miniseries. This was probably Ken Penders' high point in the series as we hadn't already introduced 50 million echidna characters.

I was just being all nostalgic about these comics after I saw the reboot in my local comic shop. My dad used to take me out every weekend (my parents were divorced, so my dad spoiled me a bit when he got to see me) and take me comic book shopping. Like every child of the 90s, I FUCKING LOVED Sonic the Hedgehog. I had pajamas, video tapes, games, ect. So it was natural that I read the comic series too. My dad is like an old gear head/burn out punk, so to see his son obsess over something that wasn't one of his interests and embrace it is one of the reasons I love my dad so much. We'd spend hours together, Him reading his old fan 'zines, me sprawled on the floor, surrounded with Sonic comics. It ended up with us just playing Sega Genesis (GOLDEN AXE FTW) Thanks for this OP.

>>25578760 I'm glad I can provide a bit of nostalgia. If you'd like to be continually nostalgia'd, I suggest you come on /co/ around 12 EDT every monday through Wednesday. THis is a regular thread that I do. I'm glad I can provide some rekindling of warm memories
>reboot there's no reboot. What are you talking about?
SS
>>25578803 Isn't issue 225 supposed to be some sort of reboot? Like a 'getting back to his roots' issue for Sonic?
Shinginta !kC8o/hZWX2
>>25578853 Yes and no. 225-29 is not going to be something that's currently main continuity. It's a bit of "Now for something completely different" where Ian's probably testing the waters for merging Sonic game canon and Archie's canon for an origin story. Even if it's well-recieved all that likely means is some kind of retcon of how everyone met, not actually a series reboot.
Anonymous
>>25578803 Is pretty cool since there's not many threads about the sonic comics. I just got up to date on the series that I started at ground "0" six months or so back. It's been quite a ride for sonic & knux these past 18 years, though there can be times when writers tend to "tread on each others toes" so to speak
Mayor Biuliani !!6Xwn0AridPY
>>25578885 Here's my theory:
Issue 225: Eggman hits some kind of "Reality Scrambler Button" that changes the world to that of the games
226-8: Sonic plays through the plots of Sonic 1-3&K
229: Sonic does the final battle against the Death Egg and Doomsday Zone and all that, destroying it
230: With the Death Egg destroyed, the world returns to normal
Anonymous
>>25578803 I'll try and remember that. I just got internet at my new house so I'm still swimming in a sea of new memes and new faces on the boards I regular.

The parallels are not quite as obvious except maybe Marine being the mirror oposite of Cream. I just hope that Sonic Genisis does the comic good and not screw things up now that Ian is taken that huge mess and sculpted it into something amazing. Seriously the fact he can get me excited about that Universe where Knuckles was Enerjack we first saw in 101 to 109 is amazing

>>25579128 Blaze is about the only 'new friend' in the recent games that isn't hated by a large portion of the fanbase.
And Eggman Nega ain't half bad- he's basically Eggman but completely crazy.

I still think this franchise is beyond redemption. Sega seems to be just giving up on getting the 3D gameplay finally right and just being as blatantly desperate as possible to cash in on nostalgia. That said, it'll be a sight to see if Flynn can somehow salvage the latest insanity forced upon this long suffering comic.
Shinginta !kC8o/hZWX2
>>25579468 That's probably because Blaze knows when to shut up and do work. A lot of the fanbase views Shadow as angstier than he actually is, but he's just about the only character aside from Blaze who really has a "let's get down to business" attitude. She's basically Shadow without the drama.
Plus it's fairly new in the franchise that we get a competent female character who isn't about being female. Blaze, for all intents and purposes, could have been a dude. Amy's role is "the girl," Rouge's role is "the girl," Blaze's role is "I'm here to save my fucking world. Get out of my way."

>>25579498 But Colors was good. Unleashed was good
. No matter how right or wrong they get the Generations Classic gameplay, I'm excited to be able to play old levels with the Colors-gameplay Sonic, so I think they at least succeeded on pumping out good modern Sonic games, even if their rehashes and cash-ins on nostalgia suck. Plus they finally dropped the idea that each plot has to be more epic than the last one. Heroes < SA < SA2 < Shadow < 06 in terms of drama, but then both Unleashed and Colors rank below Heroes. They're lighthearted again, and low on plot again, which are both good things. Anonymous

I know I talk about this every time this debate comes up, but a long overlooked and good Sonic game was Rivels for PSP (not the second one, that sucked). The plot was lite and really more just a loose device to move the characters from one zone to the next. The graphics were 3D but the gameplay was 2D platformer with the 3D just being eye candy. it had multipal paths to choose from as you work from start to finish and I thought the powers to mess with your opponant were fun. Also I don't know why but I always find it fun to play as the characters in diffrent outfits
