I quite liked watching this move. It wasn't particularly groundbreaking but I recently saw it again and paid a bit more attention to the music and sound effects and was quite impressed. Got the feeling that they could have done a bit more to make it better.

What would you have done to improve '9' /co/?

I would have dropped the voice acting, for one. That alone made the original short a more interesting film.

Sure it shows life returning but only as micro bacteria which means it might still take millions of years before any more complicated form of life appears again and it's completly unknown if anything like the humans might show up again.

Also even if, humanity wasted most of the rare resources so what ever comes after us, will most likely have no chance to reach the stars.

I think making the end a little less on the mysticism side of things might have been nice.

Also, not entirely sure if I would have kept the obligatory guy who says he wants to protect people but he really wants power so when the brash young upstart gets stranded he orders his subordinates not to help but one of them does and bluh bluh huge character trope

Have an unknown producer instead of Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov. They turned it into a Tim Burton-esque action movie where it really shouldn't have been. The original short was a quiet and anxious piece where the movie was a big epic tale full of confidence. Shane Acker should've been given full creative control.

Kill Deborah Lurie and bring back Earganic to do the score.

Absolutely no voice acting. That was pretty much the biggest mistake they could've made.

It's "Wasted Potential - The Movie" sadly. The design, the setting, the plot were all cool. But the characters were pretty superficial though I think they could have gotten interesting if they were given more screentime. 9 would have made a better series than a movie. The story was also pretty weak and the ending was too much of a downer for my tastes.
A part of me wants a second movie (that somehow magically ressurrects the other guys) where they find a baby or something to protect. But then again, babies are annoying as hell in fiction and I would most likely rage at all the stupid stuff the kid would do.

Less VA, sure. Maybe only voiceovers from the humans, something like that?

I feel like there should be some sort of actual words going on at some points, even if it's not connected to any of the sackdolls.

I didn't watch the short movie before watching the film, so it was sort of a clean slate for me.

Same here. It wasn't movie of the year five stars stuff but it was still pretty good.

I think the only problem was that it wasn't quite...I guess sophisticated enough to be a more mature movie but honestly the monsters and whatnot were pretty freaky for young kids.

But you know what, sometimes it's good to be freaked out. I was a big wuss about monsters and couldn't watch anything with them until I saw whichever Grinch special it was that had the Paraphernalia Wagon. It scared me so shitless the first time watching it that I had to watch it again. And then I wasn't so scared.

I don't know where I was going with this but...more kids movies should be scary?

I believe '9' kicked off a return to form for kids movies. There should have scary bits. It balances out the happy and funny bits.

Well it was a post-apocalyptic all-humans-are-dead movie where about half of the cast dies and the monsters are freakish skeleton-robot chimeras.

The only really happy part of it was when they were playing Over the Rainbow and that was ended by a giant monster attack. I think it was pretty grimdark.

Pushkin is kinda meh, but Mandelstamm really goes back to that kick-ass storytelling style of those 90s fucking awesome ads
