>>32562082 Film festival, but I'm pretty sure it's available to stream or download online. It's Leafie, a Hen Into the Wild, but I heard that the westernized title is just going to be Leafie. It's artistically beautiful and the story is gripping and very relevant to Korea, which is where the film was made. There are some humor choices that I didn't care for, and some of the character development is a bit lacking early on, but other than that, it's a brilliant, brilliant movie.
Anonymous
>>32562212 Oh yeah, I should probably give a synopsis or something huh.
This is Leafie. She's a hen. She's stuck in a farm laying eggs and wants to get out into the yard so that she can have children of her own. She makes a plan to escape, but when she finally succeeds, the other animals in the yard don't want her there. So, she's forced to go out into the wild.
She runs into a weasel that almost eats her when she's saved by a duck. Stuff happens, to avoid spoilers, Leafie ends up hatching a duckling egg and raises the child as her own.
And THAT'S where the main story starts.
The whole thing is basically an allegory of North/South Korea relations. Anonymous

Haven't seen Leafie yet, but the saddest and most haunting ending I've seen in an animated movie for kids belongs to Ringing Bell. Technically anime, but the animation is much closer to what you'd typically see in a Western feature. It was released direct-to-video in the US, still as a kids' movie. The dub is pretty faithful but the song lyrics are completely changed and sung off-key.
Basic hook: After a young sheep's mother is killed by a wolf, the sheep follows the wolf and insists that the wolf raise him so he won't be weak like the other sheep.

Jesus. The first part of the end was really predictable, but still a bit of a tearjerker, but what came after I didn't see coming at all. Went from being a decent animated movie to a great story of self-sacrifice. As a side note, I love how they portrayed the weasel. Rather than a boogeyman, they made it seem like she was just trying to survive. The burrow scene was pretty heart-wrenching, great voice acting helped on that part.

Leafie > OSN > Umasou
Umasou started good, but the ending was disappointing. They never dealt with the fact that the T-Rex and little herbivore's relationship was based on a lie. That should have at least been confronted at some point. Because of that, the herbivore didn't feel like a real character, but more like a prop for the main T-Rex character. It wasn't a bad movie, but it could have been better.

Umasou didn't give a shit.
That's the whole point of the scene where Heart kills the other T-Rex.
Umasou's personality doesn't lend to him being all introspective and deep or caring about that shit. It would have been out of character for Umasou to be like that.
Hell, Heart spends most of the movie afraid of Umasou's reaction so that he builds it up into an unscalable mountain that Umasou tears down easily. Heart's big character was that he thought he was not allowed to be a family with Herbivores because he was a carnivore, but both his Mom and Umasou never gave a shit about that, and since he really likes them, he realizes it doesn't matter either
Heart was his dad, and that was that.
Umasou falls far more into the Comedic/Adventure story, while Leafie and OSN are mostly dramas.

One of the reasons why it made sense for Greenie to have confused feelings about his relationship with Leafie, while Umasou doesn't with Heart is the way they were being raised. Leafie was able to give Greenie a lot of love and attention, but she couldn't teach him important things because of the differences in their physiology. Leafie simply couldn't teach Greenie how to fly and swim because she could not. Heart on the other hand, is able to both give Umasou affection and also teach him all the shit he needs to know to survive, because despite the differences in physiology, Heart could still teach Umasou how to swing his tail, roar, etc. So Greenie's frustrations make sense, while having Umasou going under something similar would have probably been more forced.

Everything felt forced. They weren't even friends for long, and now they're fucking over family to be together. It all just seemed stupid, even if it was meant to be a love story.
Leafie and Umasou are both about relationships between parents and children. It's insulting to imply that a bond between two relatively new friends/lovers could ever be as strong as the bond between a parent and the child they raised from birth.
Leafie>Umasou>>>>>>>OSN in my opinion.
I think it's the music in Leafie that really gets me. It's all so beautiful and perfect
