>>43882937Well, the problem with Mario is that unlike Sonic, his style of gameplay isn't too hard to translate, and they stick to the formula and make it as accessible as possible.
The problem is that the series has become completely homogenized, and unwilling to bend to new ideas, or even the idea of doing anything remotely different. I love Mario, but if I see another Generic Desert World or Ice World, I'll jump off Cheese Bridge. They could spice these things up, but they fucking don't.
And Sticker Star ended up turning out that way because for whatever reason, the only way this game could be a Mario Game is if it's as Close to a Regular Mario game as possible
That's why people were so angry about it. People love Paper Mario because it poked enough fun at the series without being a parody, yet embraced it completely. Even with all of the new areas and enemies you come across, they don't feel too out of place in a Mario game.
Remember, the earlier portions of the series had Mario battling a Frog King of a dream land, an alien and an evil counterpart. He was allowed to leave the Mushroom Kingdom.
They ripped all that out and mad it as basic as possible. Not even Bowser, the funniest character in the series is allowed to speak.
That's just a goddamn shame
