So what was the deal with no signs at Otakon this year? I heard some bullshit excuse about holding up traffic, but I'm pretty sure that goes for all cosplay... any ideas on why the sign hatred? Really messed up my habbo groove.

Because in previous years it looked like a third of the entire fucking con was holding a useless sign of some sort or other, each one begging for attention harder than the other. Mostly begging for "glomps," hugs, occasionally money. It was seriously fucking annoying, and I'm glad they banned the signs. It isn't a new thing, BTW. They'be been banned a few years now.

they're actually supposed to be okay if they're part of a costume but it ends up being a pain in the ass for everybody involved, the staffer who has to ask the cosplayer "hay is that part of costume" and the cosplayer who gets asked "hay is that part of costume" 800 times

If you're curious, "Pool's Closed" and variants were okayed by staff. The guy next to me in line at for the Otakon panel had a "Panel's Closed" sign, and staff was actually pleased that we were holding it up because the panel really WAS closed.

It really has to do with City Prostitution laws and Otakon instead being policed by the police, simply policed themsevles which is far better and far nicer. At least thats where it started at the last otakon i was at 2004.
