Also had a friend drop out on me, so I wound up stay with my sister's cosplay group at the hotel but wandering the convention alone. I walked around and talked to no one most of the time. Met some people I knew and hung out with them half the first day. Took a break for a third of the second day and just read a book outside after lunch rather then sit in a cold video room. Evening of the second day I actually met someone else who got a horribly constructed bagel sandwich after they had run out of bread at that one place in the convention center. Had a short conversation with him, wound up disgusted that he only came because of the character named "Otakon" in metal gear solid. Sister had a stroke overnight before Sunday, but we didn't know that till 3 days latter. Helped her out Sunday morning, caught the Studio Ghibli panel then met back with her to head home, as she was still having trouble talking.
It's not as stressful or whiny as going with people you know, but there's no one to enjoy it with either. I think seeing TTGL on the big video projector made the whole trip worthwhile, but there were long stretches where I would rather have been back home.
