Lets talk about Neoteny

What is that you may ask? In a nutshell it is the retention, by adults in a species, of traits previously seen only in juveniles.

Some believe it is a key part of what makes humans what we are. It is why we have so little body hair, why we are smart, why we care about each other, etc. It is also why we produce art and music, and why we find those things attractive. One argument is that art and music are extensions of child like behavior. But they are also things that can be only produced by high intelligence. So by finding these traits attractive, we slowly made our species more intelligent by using this trait as one of many for mating selection

Why talk about that here? Well, it would seem that people are increasingly finding juvenile traits attractive. It might be as extreme as pedos or as mild as the modern porn industry having mostly shaved bodies.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting topic. I think it partly explains why people are so attracted to some of the things they are attracted to. Maybe we are predisposed to like these juvenile traits because it increases the chances of our offspring being smarter or more creative.
