I work in a factory, and my jeans keep getting torn up, so I was wondering if anyone here could tell me a bit about leather...

What would be a good thickness for factory work? Specifically, building trailers and dealing with sharp corners in tight spaces? I just plan on attaching a leather backing to the jeans I already use, and I would like to make sure I have thick enough leather...
