Student-culture has been like that for more than 200 years. When the first universities came up some students got killed because they ran amok. The students weren't under normal law, those universities where church-bound institutions; so there where under ecclesiastical law. Meaning that if they fucked up your house you couldn't do shit about it. There's been a time where students would pay less taxes on beer, because it was deemed essential for the lifestyle.
The thing is, those modern studentenverenigen take it too far; most of the people that have joined the corps seem to turn into dickheads. They start looking down on 'knorren' like
