Those statistics are pretty questionable. Remember, a lot of current societal factors that do NOT have to do with active discrimination influence those numbers, including but not limited to:

And the like.

The "glass ceiling" exists only rarely nowadays and has a lot more reasons than active problems, and it certainly has nothing to do with male-created limitations on women.

Do you know WHY they got accepted and you didnt? It wasn't school performance, since as you said you got the same grades. Its because schools have to maintain a balance of each gender (affirmative action). There are tons of smart asian and white males trying to get into big Unis. Not so many women.

In my experience, as a former fat-child (from a thin mother)...
Mothers have an instinct to feed their child as much nutrient rich food as they can. Simple biological response.

Couple that with culture that (only in the last century) has developed truly reliable access to food and mothers get a pretty strong compulsion inside your head to feed your child.

There are other factors too (if the mother grew up in a poor household etc etc). But in my experience, I have seen my mother's behaviour replicated in countless Attenborough documentaries as mammals attempt to constantly fatten their young for the difficult winter or whatever.

Oxbridge or not, university places in the UK are on the most ridiculous scheme ever concieved. I know guys who are obscenely smart, A* across GCSE and A levels, shit load of work experience and all that other crap they want, got rejected. I also know a few girls, who are all the prissy dress up type, couldnt outsmart a brick, proper teen movie air heads, got all offers, going to cambridge.
