Cardio only "kills your gains" when you don't eat enough. It's that simple; if you're bulking and your extra 500kcals are cardio'd off through running, elliptical, rowing, etc, than you expended the excess calories that would go towards building muscle.
On the flip side, cardio can be bad on a cut only if, let's say, you're eating at a 1000kcal deficit and THEN do even more cardio, putting you at an extremely low deficit.
tl;dr - Cardio will never kill gains as long as you eat enough food.
