i'm joining a boxing club, go in for my first session later this week. the ultimate goal is to be fighting people there, but what can i expect first time? are they just going to have me punch a bag for an hour? i don't know what to expect.

skipping, abs.
you wont spar on your first day and you probably wont hit the bags, I dunno depends on the shape you are in and the type of gym.
Good gyms have trainers that walks around and help you. Shitty gyms put you in a class.

Boxing and/or Kick-Boxing in general is pretty exhausting to those who aren't really conditioned (aka fat, sedentary, etc).

My guess is they'll have you do extremely light bagwork while they demonstrate the proper technique for the basic moves. The gloves would be for wrist support as boxing beginners generally have weaker wrists and if you hit a bag wrong you can fuck you wrist up like no other.

if i was you, i'd go and buy some wraps, they're about 5-10 dollars, and it'll help protect your wrist, when i first went to boxing, i did a hook like a retard and my wrist was fucked for a week.
for starters, if it's a good gym, someone will take you aside, teach you the strikes, how to move, and some basic combos, then they'll probably hit you up with some cardio to see your fitness.
you'll be on bags and focus pads for a long time before you spar.
hope you enjoy it man, i love it, haven't been able to go for a while but i'm getting back into it.
also, if you can afford it, get your own gloves, they're like 25dollars, and there's nothing worse than using shitty club sweaty gloves.

yea that sounds alright. not very keen on cardio as i already gym 3 times a week. i bought inner gloves (see pic), they said gloves are provided but i hear what you're saying about sweaty gym gloves. hope i enjoy it too

yea, those are the same thing as wraps,
if you do a lot of your own cardio, they'll prob just get you to do a bit of skipping to do some warm up,
and a bit of core work at the end.
