Hey /sci/

How do i solve for a and b? It's obviously when the function equals 0, but it's not a quadratic so i have no idea how to find it without making it really messy.

So you want (1-x) or (x^2-9) to be 0
0=1-x for x=1
0=(x^2-9) for x=3, -3

If its on third potention, it is not parabola.
You drew it incorrect.

It has cut the x-line three times.

0 = (2-x)(x^2-9)
The equation will be 0, if one brackets = 0.

1. 2-x = 0 --> x1 = 2
2. x^2 - 9 = 0 --> x2 = 3; x3=-3

That's easy. With a regular polynomial you would find d. (b^2-4*a*c) then you would sove for x.
x ( or a,b) = ((-b+-squareroot[D])/(2*a))
and then you would get two solutions.
however, the graph you wrote the equation for doesn't look like that all, it looks more like this.
