I have always had a problem with alcohol, and my stepfather is Peruvian so he suggested I go to the jungle and take amazonian plants to get "healed"

After a few weeks of that, which included abstaining from sex, I got wasted with some local chicks and blacked out and went to the hospital to get medicine for withdrawals. the hospital called this psychopath who "runs" a "rehab center" and i thought it would be a good idea because they said they would help me detox.

so I arrived at the place and they had no medicine and nothing to detox, but I had to constantly do these insane exercises and we were ONLY eating aguadito -- this shitty soup of rice and water and salt, nothing more.

initially they told me one week, and then they said I wasnt going anywhere. I had no contact with my family or friends or anyone, and after 3 months luckily someone in the center escaped and reported to the police and the police came and learned about how I got robbed by these thugs and all the abuse that was going on.

for example, we had an "experiencia" called Hombre De La Noche where if we were not asking permission to stand, sit, etc. we had our heads dunked into a bucket until passing out, and when we came to they would dunk our heads more in the bucket. after which we would be forced to "meditate" on our knees in the "meditation room" staring at the wall for the entire night without sleep.

shit was fail, im still scarred as fuck.

i learned later that many of these "rehabilitation centers" exist in south america and are aimed at creating humility and discipline in addicts. for me, all the abuse made me lose faith in anything and everything. i was convinced I would be there for years until the police came and busted that shit up.

well at first I didnt speak any Spanish, which made it really hard. but I learned quickly that you had to ask permission for EVERYTHING -- standing up, sitting down, using the bathroom, drinking water, washing your hands, whatever the fuck involves moving or thinking, you better ask permission, if you dont, you get sent to the meditation room to put your hands behind your back and stand in front of a wall staring.

you also must sit and stand in a very particular way, and you must not speak without asking permission to speak. there were about 25 people there and they were split up between "hermanos mayores" and "hermanos menores" -- everyone went by "hermano x" or "brother x" and we prayed 15-20 times a day.

if you lack discipline consistently even for small infractions, you get a "confronto grupal" or a group confrontation where everyone rushes to a small room and encircles you and takes turns screaming directly into your ear until you cant hear shit and then you get assigned an "experiencia" -- either the hombre de la noche in some cases, others had to drink a bowl of salt 3 times a day, others "pulpo de la familia" or "planton del baño" or other fucked up things.

Id like to stress just how insane this was for someone who thought he was going to a sane place to detox from alcohol for a week maximum. then being told i was not leaving, and not having contact with my family for the whole time (I learned later that my family was looking for me and when they tracked me down the "director" of the center lied his ass off to them and so they thought things were good).

also I had no materials to learn spanish, now I can speak and understand spanish after 3 months of being forced to as a matter of survival.

keep in mind I am an atheist who has always been sort of anti-religious as well, and to be forced to memorize prayers (in a language I didnt even know) and if i recited them incorrectly being punished brutally, it was horrible. yet after a while resistance was futile and there was no point in deviating from their demands.

not a fat camp, but a drug-alcohol rehabilitation center. but i stress this was not a center, it was a barricaded old house with 1 toilet (no toilet paper) and we took "showers" by pouring 2-3 bowls of water on each other. there were only 3.5 rooms for the 25 of us as well and despite spending the whole day constantly "cleaning" the floors, itw as always with pissy disgusting water and rags.

there are many of these "rehab centers" across peru and colombia and other countries, and many have been closed down, but from what I can see a gringo has never been caught up in any of them until my experience, perhaps it is unique enough that I can write a book. I have no connections to the industry, but who knows.

it was possible, but my options outside were shaky at best, and the center was located on a street where people were all supporting the center.

im Danish not Portugese.

the hunger pains went away after a few weeks. the beatings got less frequent and painful with time and adaptation.

my long-term plan was to become an hermano mayor (usually after 4-6 months), which had priviledges attached to it including being able to be outside or at least have more opportunities to dash out the front door and make a run for it.

/fit/ will be glad to know that in my first weeks I frequently made requests to provide more protein in the family´s diet, as well as diverse fruits and vegetables to provide better nutrition for everyone.

Let me recap.

Upon entrance I was moderately overweight, but had decent muscle. I was a 36-38 waist, i am 1,85m tall, and was 101kg.

Upon leaving I have 30-32 waist and am 80kg. I have loose skin in my abdominal area, but I can tell Ive lost serious muscle mass in my chest and arms. my legs seem to be well-worked out, but unfortunately there was no protein to speak of, so i didnt get "gains", but i sure lost a fuckload of fat too, my abs are visible now and everyone who has seen me now including chicks think i look pretty good.

thats probably why its so effective. you REALLY think youre drowning, I really thought i was going to die, and even blacked out 2-3 times in the process. and that wasnt enough for them, because afterwards you are forced to meditate standing and staring at a wall for the whole night without sleep. if you dont meditate in proper form you are harrassed further.

i only have 2-3 days out of the place, so Im still adjusting. a psychologist told me it will take a couple weeks to feel "normal" again, so yea my outlook is different right now, but I dont know to what extent until my mind gets back to normal. I have no desire to use any substances or eat poorly or anything. a couple good things that came from it is i do understand spanish now and I am in better form. ive always been overweight and now im fitting in normal fit clothes and its been an experience that some tell me I have a book or movie on my hands. who knows. im exhausted to be honest.

well the one example I can cite is the riot I spoke of earlier, three people were implicated in it, and received a week-long experiencia. waterboarding against them by the whole family went on multiple times a day, daily, for the whole week, and they were forced to "completo cien" MANY many times daily and were deprived of sleep the whole week and taken off to a closed room and returned with welts on their body.

oh and "planton del baño" was an experiencia where you have to stand in the closet toilet all day for 2-3 days and remain when people come in to piss and shit and you clean up after them, even wiping their ass. I got that shit twice, fucked up.

like I said, I was a pretty lousy alcoholic before. i mean I had my shit together school and work wise, but I towards the end I was getting shitfaced regularly to the point of blacking out and needing withdrawal meds when I wanted to stop. thats why I agreed to go to peru to take the medicinal plants.

but my father seems more shocked than anything, and he wants me to make whatever decision I want to, but wants to make sure I dont have a continued problem with alcohol.

my mother is simply a cunt, along with my stepfather, who think the experience was what I deserved and that I need even more rehab or psychiatric help, and think that my stories are fabricated or that I am telling them for sympathy rather than to recount an experience. in fact my first communication with them outlined how if I refuse to continue to get help or relapse or whatever, I can consider myself not being supported by them at all. yet, what support do they speak of? Ive had to shell out more than 3,000 dollars for random shit related to flight tickets and the amazonian plants i was taking with the shaman and other stuff. so its all quite annoying. at least my father seems to understand that perhaps the experience was tramautic.

as I type im sitting in this room of a nice house in Lima with the curtains shut because i have a mental association of looking outside that is negative. I still stand with my hands behind my back in a certain way and sit down with my hands on my legs in a certain way (if you dont do that in the center, you meditate). if someone calls my name, i still scream back "PRESENTE HERMANO" as doing otherwise in the center results in punishment for "no ser reciptible" or "not being responsive" and for lacking respect for the family and the house (every god damn thing could be construed as such in reality)

Lunch time - released from hell - pull money out (got cash! thank god), go with my step-uncle to get some food.

2 cups Mango Juice
1 nice big chicken breast (cooked normally, not deepfried or anything)
a potato with some ketchup and aji
4 teaspoons of a rich coconut chocolate tierramisseu desert (yea fuck you, i went 3 months without any flavor and wanted to enjoy SOME)

Skipped dinner due to the tierra misseu (/fit/ til the end motherfucker), but had a few crackers on the flight to Lima.

Day 2

Breakfast
- 1 egg
- amazing large avocado without salt or anything, tasted fucking godly, peruvian avocados own.
- two small pieces of black bread with marmelade and cheese

Lunch

- Mashed corn with cilantro sauce with pork meat
- half cup or one cup of brown rice

Dinner

- Some weird german dish which was two sausages and lentils and a pasta-like cheese thing
- Papayas, bananas, and mango salad

Day 3
Breakfast
- Similar to day 2, some avocado, bread with cheese and marmelade and honey, nothing excessive

Lunch
A tiny bit of pasta with a cheese sauce that had peas, carrots, and ham, very delicious.

Salad of cucumber, tomatos, lime, etc.

Dinner
Lamb with potatos and sauerkraut

10g of dark bitter chocolate

Day 4
Breakfast this morning was the same as before more or less.

So im staying /fit/, but eating diversely and nutritionally. My body feels fuckloads better than before.

I actually didnt inject religion into this at all. the only time I mentioned it was when I mentioned it was even more difficult as an atheist to be forced to pray and learn prayers and such.

Funny enough, I am not bitter against religion or religious people after the experience. I must admit that at the beginning I was raging hardcore, but now I feel pretty much the same about religion, I dont believe in God and I think religion like any beliefsystem can be misused.

Ayahuasca is used as a "hypnotic" herb for rituals of a number of religions. It's a proven fact that it may cause schizophrenia on regular use. Substituting alcohol for ayahuasca is substituting piss for shit.

Tarapoto is a small jungle town of about 200.000-300.000 people. Los Amigos de Jesus is a "non profit" organization part of "ACCT - Associacion Cultural Communidad Terapeutica". Some guy had a shitty little house on a street in Tarapoto where he gave it to the association to have a "rehab center". It has two floors and a third outsid floor where clothes were hung to dry and where the rice soup was made (also one of the few ways to escape). We were prohibited to go to the first floor unless it was for a group confrontation, because thats where the director and his disgusting wife lived (also the other way to escape). The second floor was where we were, all day, every day. It had two small windows where we were forbidden to look outside, but served the valuable purpose of ventillating the place.

the second floor contained 3 rooms where we slept, and we were anywhere from 6-8 to a room, with the hermanos mayores usually sleeping in the main "sala" to keep watch. at night we were locked into the rooms and given two small buckets to shit and piss in at night, which were dumped out in the morning by the hermanos menores.

there was a "shower" but it was rarely running water, and when it was, we saved it in a large bucket to be used as our water supply for making the rice and drinking water and to dump a couple bowls onto ourselves for a "shower". there was also a closet with a toilet for everyone.

Yep, fucking shit was a process man, it wasnt like he reported them and the next day we got out. the probem was i had no family who got the news, so no one came to pick me up. it was a process with the police, sucked balls.
