Since it's winter here and it's colder than polar bear testicles outside, here's a recipe for suimono.
What you'll need:
One cup plus two tablespoons of Dashi
One and a half teaspoons of sugar
four teaspoons of soy sauce
quarter cup of sake
three bitesized cubes of raw chicken
salt (to taste)
one green onion
one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger
In a saucepan, combine the cup of dashi, one teaspoon of sugar, and three teaspoons of the soy sauce to a boil. Let it simmer for five minutes, when ready, set it aside.
Meanwhile, combine the sake, chicken, remaining dashi, sugar, soy sauce and salt in a skillet and bring to a boil over high heat, cook the chicken until done, about three minutes, shaking the skillet. Move the chicken bits to a small soup bowl.
Trim the ends from the green onion, julienne it, and rinse it in cold water. Pat it dry.
Spoon the dashi broth over the chicken pieces and add the green onion and ginger. serve immediately.
