The other day I saw some guy (who was a white American) complaining about how the food in most American Chinese restaurants is not "authentic". His idea of authentic was all this expensive crap personally cooked by a chef. I doubt the average man in China has access to that.

There's a restaurant near my house that could be considered authentic Szechuan. It's not expensive at all, most of its customers are actual Chinese people (not to mention the menu in Chinese and the chefs Chinses immigrants), and the food doesn't give me stomach aches.

Really, it depends where you look.

It's not hard to spot the authentic places. Just look for restaurants that are frequented by lots of Chinese people and families.

What I've heard is chinese food here in america is tailored to american taste, basically frying everything they have and serving it to us. Americans like fried food I guess. Anyways, some places have a whole other menu for chinese people, the "real" stuff.

Does it drive anyone else nuts to order chinese food? I hate hearing "herro!" everytime I dial their fucking number. And then they can't understand what I'm saying, and I can understand what the fuck theyre saying in engrish. Fucking gooks...

It's not that it's not authentic. It's just heaps less variety than what you would have in China, and quite often over-fried or under-fried. Shit doesn't have to be expensive for it to be authentic. I still remember the last time I went back to China, and this old guy with a trolley in an alley cooked the best tasting fried rice and noodles ever. It was that good.

Go to a chinese tea house and it should be what constitutes as actual Chinese food. Mind you it is filled with generally old people and such which is a reason I rarely go out with my family for meals there.

No point complaining about it unless its being advertised as authentic chinese quisine.

Theres several very different types of chinese quisine, the expensive stuff is generally what they would want to market. You don't want to eat what poor people eat o.0

I'm a chinese american and I prefer the americanized dishes more.

I went to a Chinese place and got the menu they give to Chinese people. I thought I ordered "beef tender", but it was actually "beef tendon". It was very, very spicy, and kind of inedible for a cracka like me. I've learned my lesson, and now subsist largely on chicken fried rice and chop suey.
