>>1>>17Intoxication a state of being affected by a substance after it is administered and distributed throughout the body. Intoxication includes any effect(s) that are observed and the type of effects observed depend on the what the substance is. With alcohol and drugs, there is a "high" feeling, but with other substances such as water, the effect is feeling like crap and feeling like you are dying.
Water poisoning is actually caused by throwing off the concentration of salt and electrolytes in the body's fluids. This can happen by drinking a ton of water in short period of time or when salts are sweated out of the body and a person regains fluids by drinking water but doesn't resupply the salt lost. This is the reason why many athletes drink sports drinks instead of straight water.
Water poisoning is a very serious matter because with screwing with the salt concentrations leads to screwing up of the concentration gradient going in and out of the body's cells. This causes cells to swell and die off thus leading to serious complications including nausea, tremors, and headache, or more seriously brain swelling, seizures, coma, and death.
I know this because I got messed up after going to Warped Tour a few years back on the hottest day of summer and drank nothing but straight water all day. I was lucky, but it took me awhile to get back to normal.
As Paracelsus once said, "Alle Ding sind Gift, und nichts ohn Gift; allein die Dosis macht, daß ein Ding kein Gift ist." or "All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous."
So kids, don't screw around with trying to get high off of water, or if you try, you probably deserve to be eliminated from the gene pool. Just do what
