The reason why those aren't included by default are to keep the user's freedoms in tact. There's no problem with them installing support for them afterward though.

There's plenty of free formats that are used widely, such as FLAC.
Even then you have to realize not everyone uses their computers the same way someone else does. Perhaps all they need is web browsing or a coding platform, or maybe they use it only for writing documents and emails.
It doesn't matter to me though, I'm willingly giving up freedoms I don't have the ability to exercise in exchange for conveince when I use non-free formats.

Of course there is no native support for proprietary formats in the linux-kernel. That would be illegal in the US. But if you look at some OSs which uses the Linux-kernel, such as Ubuntu, you can see that there is an easy way to get support for those.

Even Windows has no native support for most (any?) of those formats. There are many other reasons why Linux will never be popular on the desktop

Looks like that was 1995. Today windows usually doesn't crash on those things. Except the drivers are bad written. Also Linux supports very old stuff which nobody uses except you.

Just use Lubuntu. (Ubuntu with LXDE)
Try booting into it from the Live CD. If it works, install it. If not, you're fucked, try Gentoo.

It should work fine though.

Mint has a green default theme. Which does not matter for shit.

LXDE is more lightweight because it's basically Openbox with some extra tools. LXDE is always better for slower computers.

There's nothing really wrong with that though. It's free software; they're allowed to do what they want with it. You could do the same thing to them - grab their OS, slap a new logo on it and call it AnonOS.
