I guess Firefox on Linux was always slower than windows?

Even on Gentoo, that hasn't always been the case. Before Fx3 came out, Fx was full of weird hiccups on Linux (and gentoo) to the point that just loading the tags list on rule34.paheal.net would bring the whole browser to a screeching halt.

Also, "twice as responsive"? I doubt it.

Well, I'll give you the fact that Opera *is* a pioneering browser in every respect, being the first to get JavaScript, CSS and a whole load of things. Wish it was open-source though.

OP, I use linux because when a security hole is discovered, it's a big fucking deal that makes the news. If a security hole is not discovered in Windows on any given day, it's a celebratory occasion.

given that the differences in speed between IE(, Firefox 4 and chrome on windows are more or less inpreceivable without the use of relevant benchmarks I don't see how you feel so sure firefox on linux is faster based purely on your own perception, especially when mozilla are claiming the opposite and thet presumably have better benchmarks than you do.

However, I don't like snot nosed little kids spouting "works better for me" because they think their 0.02% performance benefit from compiler optimizations is making any difference in the responsiveness of the software they're using.

It's not just compiler options (most of the benefit came from a heavily personalized .mozconfig), and frankly I don't think this kind of thing would have been exclusive to Gentoo either way.
Also, go fuck yourself, I'm not a "snot nosed little kid" just because a my Firefox build happens to work well.

okay, but i understand (correct me if i'm wrong) you can make a persoanllised build like this in Windows too?

It's like me saying firefox in windows is faster and not mention i made an optimised build on windows and didn't bother on linux. Kind of worth mentioning no?
