Are Alienware products worth the large pricetag or are you better off building your own?

I've built my own before but had lots of problems with it and it eventually just gave up the ghost..

So I was thinking I should just get a powerful Alienware despite the price. Would this be a stupid move or should I just build one from scratch again?

What kind of problems did you have building your own?
I built my own comp for the first time about a week ago. It was as simple as just plugging everything in and pressing the power button. Installing windows etc is easy as well.

Well anyway to answer the question, I think if you've decided you're definitely going to buy pre made, look elsewhere. Alienware are quite expensive and the cases look like glow in the dark aliens which I don't consider to be a good thing

Well I just customised an alienware computer to the same specs as mine online and it came to about twice the cost as what I paid...

Also, what the fuck is up with this? (The part that I circled) aren't these two cpus just exactly the same?

I have a m11x r2. It does everything I need it to. Gaems, VMs, rainbow tables, etc.

For a couple weeks after the r3 came out you could get sandy bridge i7, 8gb ram, and a 2x2 intel nic for $1100 or less.

Find a deal and it's worth it, if you're buying one retail then you need to assess your cost:benefit.

One comes stock OC'd just a little higher.
They charge more for that.
Like AMD chipsets, the 955 BE and 965 BE are the same chip, but the 965 comes slightly more OC'd and costs 20 bucks more.

Overclocked, my processor is faster, and it has a larger cache. The 6550 looks better than the gt335m, but can it CUDA (ati's version whatever it's called)? The gt540m in the r3 looks incrementally better than the 6550... The Acer is lighter, but I can't find the outside dimensions on that page.

tl;dr- no buyers remorse because that computer wasn't out yet.

both great computers for what they are (basically large netbooks that can actually game and be real computers)

im pretty sure your m11x processor is a bit behind tho, because its ULV
