Yo, /g/.

I'm looking at speakers right now, and as I am not very knowledgeable about the subject I am a little lost in finding speakers that are better for their price..

I've been comparing these two, and I wanted to know about what their difference mean/which is better for this price.

other than the obvious fact that the b-20 can handle much higer wattage and has a slightly higher sensitivity, making it slightly louder at the same wattage

the b-20 has a larger midrange which pulls duty from 65-2250hz, whereas the rb41 has a larger tweeter which does 1500hz upwards but its midrange can only get down to 85hz within -3db

less of an issue if you want to crossover to your sub at 100hz, but if you use the standard 80hz crossover it may leave a hole

really with these what it comes down to is what wattage youll drive them at and space concerns
70 watt per channel or lower get the rb41s, higher get the b20s

yes

powered speakers have an amplifier built into the cabinet, these are not powered speakers, these need an external amp, generally youll buy a receiver which combines an am/fm receiver, source selector, and amp (as well as newer features like vidya upscaler/selector, xm/sirius receiver, equalizer, etc)

well, unless they screwed something up, most digital amps sound about the same, so it comes down to longevity and receiver features

i did have a cheap yamaha that just couldnt produce lowend, wasnt a big deal since i had a sub, but the denon i replaced it with is much nicer

sony receivers from the 80s are fantastic buys at yard sales and pawn shops, only decent thing sonys made in a long time actually..........

onkyo, denon, harman kardon, and pioneer are pretty much best bet for quality construction, but i still recommend getting a lightly used unit that youve confirmed sounds and works well from a pawn shop or yard sale

the highs on the kilpsch are a little... harsh, that horn doesnt help

Okay, well your homework then is to read up on warm vs. sharp vs. neutral, look up what brands and models tend towards what type of sound, then go down to a store with your own favorite CD (with music you know very well) and play it on demo units for each type. Pick your favorite, then look down the product line for the cheapest speakers that will sound the way you want at the volume you want, considering the size of your room.
