That was the final piece of the puzzle that was missing for me. I am now completely sold on WP7 and will most likely be buying one with my next paycheck.

I'm pretty set on getting one too. I don't have an upgrade until December, but the Samsung Focus is marked down to like $250 right now, so I'm thinking I may just go ahead and get that and then save my upgrade to see if any of the Nokia phones hit AT&T.

I would consider it if

a) The mango update was here, today. Without it, it's not as good as the competition.
b) It had phones with as good hardware as say, Samsung's Galaxy S II. Not just internals, but screen, build quality, camera etc.
c) I was absolutely sure of updates and zero fragmentation.
With an Android phone that has an unlocked bootloader I am guaranteed to receive updates very fast from XDA. Judging from the WP7 blunders with updates, and Microsoft failing to deliver their promise of updates straight from them without carrier delays and intervention, I have no reason to believe it won't fragment like Android, while having no dev support like XDA to provide me with future updates.

In fact, I'm pretty much 100% sure now that Mango will be the last update current WP7 phones will see, and future ones will be exclusive to next-gen WP7 devices.

I agree with you on hardware. With the exception of the Samsung Omnia 7 (which isn't available in the US AFAIK) the launch phones were pretty weak. The Focus has a fantastic screen and camera but the rest of it feels pretty cheap.

still missing extremely basic features like usb mass storage and flash, but microsoft is still dicking around promising itll be ok one day

you can buy one, but you are wasting your money when you could be getting something that actually does stuff, and will still be alive and getting updates and apps in 12 months

did they mention the part where in the months since windows phone 7 has come out, the windows share of the smartphone market has dropped from 11% to 7%, and is continuing a massive slide?

microsoft can't even convince people upgrading from ancient windows mobile to give winphone7 a shot

and nobody with an actual smartphone (android or iphone) is ever gonna downgrade to something with no apps and lacking basic features

The better ones like the Samsung Focus supposedly have fantastic battery life. The guy I talked to about it at AT&T was telling me that he had been using a Focus for several months and he couldn't stop talking about how good the battery life was.
