Alright /g/uys, so I had a Belkin Wireless G router that went to shit a few days ago. I'm looking to replace it with a Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N, mainly because I read up on DD WRT and Tomato, and the Buffalo router has DD WRT support that is backed by the manufacturer. What I need to know is, how steep is the learning curve for DD WRT? (I've worked with Cisco CLI a bit, is it anything like that?) are the added features really worth it? Do any of you anons (or tripfags) have any recommendations for a better router within the same price range? I'm looking to spend no more than $70.

tl;dr

Buying a router because of its DD WRT capabilities, worth it? Any suggestions?

DD-WRT doesn't require a CLI (it does have one, though), but it's a very nice HTTP interface and makes everything relatively easy to use. There's just looots of configuration you can do (if you wish) and plenty of extra features over stock firmware.

Alright thanks, I was aware it was accessible through HTTP, I just assumed most of the configuration was CLI based. I'll wait a little to see if anyone has any other recommendations before I pull the trigger on this baby.

Get a router with USB support so you can use Optware.

looked into it, it seems most decent routers (by that I mean Wireless N) with USB support start at about $90. Honestly, that's a bit above my budget, if anything I was originally going for $60, but decided $70 was still affordable. Got any recommendations?

This way if you ever feel like learning a bit more with DD-WRT you can do some really cool things like make it a NAS with a torrent client on it, have it stream media to all the PCs in the house, among tons of other things.

Oh cool, interesting thing about it though, DD WRT Wiki states that "Current firmware images will NOT work on hardware version B1!" (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_RT-N13U) which really wouldn't matter if the first link you posted was still available, as its only for the ASUS RT-N13U, but the second link (the one that is still "active") is for the ASUS RT-N13U/B . So, if I were to order it, I'd have to cross my fingers and hope to get a RT-N13U. I really like the idea of it, but I'd rather not take any chances. I'll keep looking for a Wireless-N that can do Optware though. Thanks!
