It stores all its information as an image file- the HTML for the page merely loads the HTML from the image (byte-wise grabs characters) and from that the page is created.

All the info, text, etc- used to make the webpage comes from that image.

But somehow I can't find it and Google is of NO FUCKING HELP.

Help?

Help me find the website that stores its HTML as an image (.png I think) and loads itself from that. On the page is a short description of the process.

(The image is just random speckles of color and black/white/gray- it doesn't look like anything, it's just the HTML put into pixel values that are later read to produce the webpage)

What exactly would the point of such a thing be? The raw HTML would be smaller, and there's really no advantage you get from being able to pass around an image instead of an HTML file.

The only possible argument you could make is like a QR code thing where you take a picture with your phone, but even then, the camera wouldn't accurately pick up the color information, nor is there really a need to decode HTML like that.

There is no advantage, it's just a neat example I'd like to show someone. But apparently I didn't bookmark the fucker and I can't find it- not on google and not on stumbleupon, which is probably where I saw it.

Well, sort of.
PNG uses lossless compression, which some smart people use to cram code into pictures(and extract it with JS in the browser). It'll just be obfuscated, not encrypted in any way.

Also, bumping for that URL, sounds interesting.

I doubt they'd allow you to parse the code to write your HTML unless they're stupid. But- they are free webhosts so yeah you'd most likely be able to do it.

As far as this goes, the actual uses are very small, but on a related note- you can devote less bits to your picture overall and only lose some of the quality- and encode your secret message into an image file, that someone else can again bit-wise interpret to decode that message.

Are you trying to do some sort of cryptography? The only thing related to this that I've read about is storing data in the unused bytes of images, but I still don't see the point of storing HTML files inside images.
