Take a course at a community college.
What are you looking to do in it?
I have some experince but it was painful as hell to use and mathlab was much much easier.

I will be doing bioinformatics work. From what I have seen, very large matrices, compared to one another. Statistical Work. I heard the terms eigenvalues thrown, and I have no clue what that is.

Matlab is so huge. I recommend using it for everything you need to do. Even if you already know a better way to do something. That way you can get to know Matlab thoroughly. But chances are you will only be using it at school. And it's going to be a waste of time.
What bugs me is that Matlab uses alot of keywords that are obscure or that you wouldn't think of.

Yeah, I have used it before for small things...and yes a lot of the terms are totally random..

Yeah we used it alot for matrices in school. That why i said you should take a class because the way it does things is kind of random sometimes.

just tale a course that walks you through some of the stuffs. frankly it's really a mess and I hated using it even though it was easy. for the bioinformatics work in the lab I work in we use C because it's much easier to achieve efficiency.

Well if you create a program I would imagine it would be more efficient that creating a script in a really shitty program.
