And OP: many times there is malware in cracks and patches for pirated software because as someone else said, pirates can be absolutely retarded at times.
In a lot of cases it's just false positives because of the way cracks work. Some inject themselves into the memory of a running process and some modify system files to trick programs with tough DRM schemes.
Really it's best to have a good AV (MSE seriously isn't that bad, Nod32 is one of the best, Kaspersky is second-best) and not AVG because... well frankly... it's shit.
And read comments and look for any indication that the original uploader of the files is a trustworthy guy. Even sites like TPB have icons indicating if the uploader is trusted by admins or if the uploader is actually an admin. If that's the case, anything they upload will definitely be a false positive. Check comments too!
