$815 computer. Remainder on peripherals.

Laptop will be able to do all you require. Desktop will be there for anything better.

Currently I'm looking at the IdeaPad y560 with 8 gigs of RAM and an i7

As an owner of an IdeaPad, they are NOWHERE near the level of quality that a ThinkPad is, but I've found there still a step above the regular consumer lines from HP, Dell or Toshiba.

About right in line with Asus. My IdeaPad is the first laptop I've owned where the charger hasn't self destructed on itself after a year. Unlike the shit Dell's and HP's I've used.

IdeaPads are nowhere near ThinkPad level, that is for certain. But they're right up there in my opinion with the consumer models that Asus provides.

Seriously. The Precision models are a business model, quality is right up there with a ThinkPad, and it uses a 16:10 monitor.

If you want one, it's the only one left that I'm aware of.
