>>17267551As seen on the picture I posted, wrt54gl is just goddamn slow. You need custom firmware + overclocking if you want it to be able to max out a bidirectional 25mbit line. Granted, not all places have internet connections that can push those (20/2mbit cable certainly won't), but if you have a fiber optic line, or any other connection that exceeds 50mbit download or a combined down+upload of 50mbit, the wrt54gl will act as a bottleneck.
Just look at the goddamn picture that was posted. With the wrt54gl, the user got 3-4mbyte download and 1mbyte upload, but without the router, he got 10mbyte download and 2.3mbyte upload, simultaneously. The router cut his speeds in half.
Also, the wrt54gl uses 100mbit ports, so even using it as a switch you'd only get 12mbyte/sec maximum.
