inb4 hate for using a terminal that you don't, it's about the .bashrc, not the terminal.

TERM=xterm ssh?

I doubt that would work. The problem is:
1- open urxvt and ssh homeserver
2- already on the server, open rtorrent
3- sorry faggot your TERM is too long
4- TERM=xterm inside the SSH login
5- it works, rtorrent opens

I want to avoid steps 3 and 4

dir used to be aliased to 'ls -l' on either debian or slackware some years ago. I can't remember which.

It's mintty. Better in some ways, lacking in others. Most important thing I'm missing is tab support. I've found that it works significantly better than the other terminals I've used though.
