Hey /g/.

So I am attempting to install Ubuntu on a Windows 7 laptop using Wubi. I created a 100 gigabyte partition, and installed Ubuntu on it using Wubi. After the install, I restarted my computer and booted up Ubuntu to finish the install. But, during the install I get an error message saying "No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.". How do I fix this, /g/?

just try googling it. Ubuntu has a ton of users and there is a ton of documentation.

Wubi doesn't need a separate partition. It creates a virtual disk image on your Windows partition. The whole point of Wubi is so you don't have to mess with repartitioning or bootloaders.

Run fixmbr from your Windows disk, ditch the partition (unless you want to keep it for something else) and reinstall Wubi.

Don't.

Boot from the live CD and install it from there instead.

Okay I'm a noob when it comes to software. What is Fixmbr, and I tried doing Wubi without making a partition, but it didn't work.

looks like the best advice we can give is to just redo the process, installing from a live CD. You should probably put that on a USB stick if you have one, instead of CD.

Well I want to be able to use Windows 7, as-well as Ubuntu. Would I be able to do it through that process? And if so, can you give me a quick step-by-step list if it's not too much of a problem?

1. Put the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer..
2. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
3. Click Repair your computer.
4. Click the partition that you want to repair, and then click Next.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
6. Type "Bootrec.exe /FixMbr", and then press enter.
7. Reboot into Windows and run Wubi again.
8. (optional) Remove the 100 GB partition if you aren't using it for anything else.

I'm one of the few people on this board who doesn't troll. Here is the documentation from Microsoft if you want to read about the bootrec.exe command. It fixes the partition error you get upon boot.
