So....apparently the resolution of your monitor has a HUGE impact on performance. My computer is 1440x900 and I run Battlefield Bad Company 2 on max settings flawlessly HBAO on and everything 40 fps with my 5770.

Why don't people just go with 900p instead of 1080p?

sup OP, 5770 master race with 2600k here.
60FPS @1080p with all high settings.

This game is more processor intensive.

yeah I got an i5 760. I can run every game I own on max settings. Of course, this is probably the most intense game I own....the rest are valve, blizzard, and emulators.

Yes, yes it does.

Why don't people just go with 900p instead of 1080p?

Because the native resolution of my monitor is 1200p and I intend to game at that resolution. Why would I buy such a large monitor if I didn't want that?

Most games have in-game FPS counters. Google for your specific game.

Or use Fraps.

No shit, Sherlock. Did you just learn about this? It's pretty much common sense that the more details you need to render the more computer power you will need.

People think they NEED 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 to do anything, even browse the web.
It's a shame that there are only bad to okay monitors for anything below 1920x1080 though.

What? Most monitors are around 96-100ppi, so the pixels are going to be the same size despite the resolution.

I know somebody at work who got a 1920x1200 panel in their 15.6" laptop and then bitched about how he couldn't read anything. Why would you want higher dpi?

Also usually bigger is better for work areas in programs like autocad or illustrator.

Higher resolution means better clarity.

It also means you can tell if that group of pixels off in the distance are an enemy or a tree.
